Charles of Parramatta
I reluctantly accept your comment on the article by Mike Steketee, which was originally published in The Weekend Australian on 27/28 February 2010. Are you referring to the bias of The Australian - certainly leaning dangerously in the sceptical/denialist direction - or abc carbon express, which openly states it is a "weekly e-newsletter on climate change issues and opportunities"? For you to describe the Mike Steketee article as "'flawed" and accuse him of "cherry picking" is ridiculous in the extreme. The article is so very comprehensive, clearly setting out the questions raised against the IPCC, and providing some depth of historical perspective as well, which is so rare in any article I've seen by the sceptics and deniers of late.
I don't intend to engage in discussion with writers/commentators like you Charles, if:
1. You refuse to provide your full name or who you work for/associate with;
2. Engage in insults against writers, editors or publishers like us.
I have a real job. It is one of communicating all the facts, issues and comments about climate change and related issues, through this weekly newsletter and through my book "The ABC of Carbon". I receive no payment from Government or big business to do this, unlike Ian Plimer, who rakes in many thousands of dollars for his mining consultancy and gets paid a salary by a university. He also makes a lot more money from his book which has had enormous amounts of free publicity in The Australian (the paper which Mike Steketee works for), which has not provided one line about my book. Where's the bias, I ask you?
If other readers of abc carbon express wish to comment on Mike Steketee's article - or to Charles of Parramatta - please feel free, but do abide by our rules of engagement. Name and where you are from please.

The title of this organisation says it all. this articl is written by the bias to hiding the science as the the IPCC, the conflict of interest is overwhelming.

The writing is flawed and cherry picks items for a favourable outcome regardless of the science.
Get a real job.

I think it's ludicrous to publish any information that seems to support a company like Monsanto as being environmentally or ecologically friendly. Monsanto makes poison and ensures that farmers are forced to use their poisons because they genetically modify their seeds to accept only Monsanto products like RoundUp. As is stated in the article "Monsanto is looking for ways to sell more seed and agricultural chemicals to farmers" This should read: "Monsanto is looking for ways to stand over farmers so they have to use their genetically modified seed and agricultural poisons". Full stop.

Affordability and local employment is essential in the new "Urban forms of sustainable villages / communities.

Housing has different demands from general industry.

Local Authority water, sewerage and power are no longer
essential in sustainable villages. We are about to move from 19th Century technology and off-grid solar villages & Electric cars.......
We have identified these are a much lower cost opton for local communities.......and have the bonus they creatre
create zero emmissions from both homes & Cars.

Each home we attached to the grid means 50years of emmissions. Phil Little

I am really dissapointed to find out that they are axing the Green Loans from next month(March).
We had our assessment done yesterday(20/2/10) and then read the paper that afternoon to find out the Green Loans are being scrapped.
I am hoping that we get our assessment report quickly so we can apply before its scrapped as that is the only reason why we had the assessment done, so we can get an interest free loan to get things, such as solar electricity & water and a water tank + get our windows tinted rather than adding extra to our home loan, which sort of defeats the purpose of trying to save money by doing all thses things.
I dont understand why so many people 70000+ have had assessments done but only 1000+ of those have gone ahead and got a green loan.
Crazy, I dont see the point in getting it done unless your interested in getting an interest free loan.

There are 2 critical aspects to addressing global warming and reversing desertification.
1 – reduce future emissions – for this TECHNOLOGY is absolutely essential.
2 – absorb the current excess legacy loadings already in circulation – for this BIOLOGY is absolutely essential.

The simple truth is that probably half of the current problem has been directly caused by inappropriate human management of our land. Changing this management can have an immediate impact as the presentation linked to below shows.

Imagine if we had a process to remove billions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere safely, quickly and cost-effectively - while at the same time building soil, reversing desertification, boosting biodiversity, enhancing global food security and improving the lives of hundreds of millions of people in rural and regional areas around our planet?

We do - it's called changed grazing management and soil carbon.

Please take a look at the presentations on http://www.soilcarbon.com.au/ to learn more.

I'm allowing your comment even though we don't operate this as a blog in the normal sense of the word. Of course, we encourage feedback to the articles in our newsletter and we welcome contributions, corrections and suggestions. I do not intend this website, newsletter or blog to become an platform for extreme views, tirades or insults directed to people or institutions. I would also encourage bloggers making comment to identify themselves by name, just as the authors of articles in the newsletter do. So "Klem" I'm making an exception for you. But if you or others want to use this as a platform for reasonable comment, news, helpful information, please feel free, but in future identify yourself by name. That's what we expect of all our contributors and we also name sources for all our articles. We set the ground rules to operate by on this website, newsletter and blog.
