Solar power is really the only way to go. We all need to do our part to spread the word. It's just about getting the word out that solar and going green takes "just about the same effort".

Heartening news - for some. The assumption behind all of these 'breakthroughs' is this: we in the developed world can afford to maintain our extravagant, wasteful and destructive lifestyle by adopting a techno-fix, rather than looking at minimising our consumption. The rest of the planet, those who can't afford these new technologies, will meanwhile carry on burning even more oil, coal, timber, as well as nuclear energy, and destroying forests and viable agricultural land, in an effort to catch up with the unsustainable and acquisitive goals set by global capital. Hello Holocaust?

If FSC is so terrific, can WWF explain how Nippon Paper, Australia's biggest and most destructive woodchipper, responsible for destroying thousands of hectares of native forests a year has FSC for 6 of its mills in Japan? Its woodchips are supplied from native forests, including those of SE NSW and east Gippsland at low prices possible only because of subsidies from Australian taxpayers.
Industrial scale woodchipping of native forests should rule out any company and any product from being eligible for this once reputable label.

Simple messages are wonderful things, but they need to be grounded in reality, and your message should recognise the difference between native forests and plantations.
Loving Australian forests should mean:
*closing down the native forest woodchipping industry, because our forests are our most important carbon sinks, vital for water supplies and maintaining biodiversity; and
*using our plentiful plantation wood for virtually all our wood needs - including paper, tissues, most chairs and tables and building supplies.
Otherwise your simple message will just look like greenwash, and it's hard to see it helping people make the right choices.
